Looking at the contested midsized family sedan segment, the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord could be considered our heavyweight contenders. So which are you putting your money on? Let’s compare these champs and see if the new Ford Fusion still has what it takes to compete with the best in the class.

The new Honda Accord is fresh off an update for 2016, and has long-been a solid contender in the midsized family sedan market. But can this recent refresh help it fend off the 2016 Ford Fusion? The Fusion has a lower MSRP and better fuel economy–the latter saving you even more money in the long run. The Fusion also has more cargo space, offering more options for weekend plans. It has a longer wheelbase than the Accord, which means more legroom for both front and rear passengers. The Accord has more rear headroom, at the cost of far more conventional styling.
Styling is another area where the Fusion truly shines and stands apart from the Accord. In spite of its recent refresh, the Fusion offers far an arguably more handsome and sophisticated styling. This aggressive appearance is backed by a quartet of powerful and efficient engines. Plus, unlike the Accord, the Fusion offers advanced turbocharged options. However, to its credit, the Accord’s base model does get more power and torque than the Fusion does.
So it’s difficult to declare a winner in any comparison, but the 2016 Ford Fusion makes a strong case for itself. A lower MSRP, better fuel economy, more space, head-turning style, advanced turbocharged engines, sporty dynamics, and available AWD make the Fusion a solid choice for someone seeking to inject some fun into a family sedan. The kids sure will appreciate it, and you’ll appreciate the savings, space, and aesthetics!
